Dear Athletes, Fans and Sponsors,

On behalf of Chesapeake and Potomac Softball (CAPS), we want to Welcome You to the 2013 Gay Softball World Series. CAPS last hosted the GSWS in 2003 and we look forward to bringing you an even bigger and better week for DC Series 2013.  Washington, DC has a proud tradition of hosting significant events from presidential inaugurals to premier sporting competitions. We promise to commit that same energy and drive to DC Series 2013!

We are planning a week that combines the best of competitive softball with off-field events to create an environment of serious, friendly sport and camaraderie that are hallmarks of NAGAAA and the GSWS.  The Washington, DC region is the 7th largest metropolitan area in the United States and home to over 190,000 LGBT people – the 6th largest LGBT community in the nation. With world class hotels, softball complexes, event venues, and cultural and nightlife opportunities, the 2013 GSWS in Washington will be unforgettable!

The city, its elected leaders, and citizens are diverse, progressive, and supportive. With long-standing support of the LGBT community including recently enacted marriage equality legislation, Washington, DC truly is a destination where you are free to be yourself.  In that spirit, we have chosen "One Team. One Dream." as the theme for DC Series 2013.  Our community is only as strong as the sum of ALL its unique parts, whether you're lesbian, gay, bi, trans, athletic, not so athletic, family, or friend, all are needed and welcome on our One Team.  And as a community, we have our individual and collective Dreams such as, marriage equality, employment non-discrimination, adoptions rights, freedom to be out to your family and friends, or even, winning DC Series 2013.....we all have that One Dream.  We also want to bring special attention to and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's groundbreaking "I have a Dream" speech which occurred on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963.  ONE TEAM. ONE DREAM.

With the support of our generous sponsors and donors, we are well on the way to reaching our fundraising goals.  While you’re in town, we strongly encourage you to patronize and give thanks to all of these generous local businesses, restaurants, bars and media partners that are not only supporting the Series, but have been strong long-time supporters of our LGBT sports community.

It will take the entire LGBT community and all its partners to successfully host the GSWS.  There are still a variety of ways to still get involved, whether it’s through corporate donations, local sponsorships, as an individual donor or by volunteering leading up to and during the week of the Series.

Events like the GSWS are truly transformative, not only for the participants, but for the community.   We are honored to be your hosts and look forward to adding another chapter to long and rich history of DC LGBT sports.  We look forward to hosting the 2013 Gay Softball World Series, showcasing our amazing hometown, elevating the game to new heights, and continuing to make the GSWS the largest and premier annual gay sporting event in the world!

Welcome to Washington DC!
